Cortina life

A smooth Cook Straight crossing and cruise through the Marlborough sounds landed us in Picton at midday on Friday…

We drove pretty much straight to Nelson where we unloaded the cars, and set about cleaning the 800km of dirt and bugs off them in readiness for the show on Saturday. Lexi and Luka arrived on their plane not long after we got here…to join the crew!

Meet and greet at the Speight’s Ale house, and pick up our goodie bags with weekend agenda details! Friday night in Nelson was hectic so we headed back to our motels and ordered Chinese for dinner…

Then the show begins! Saturday morning to the stadium park up…

Show up, drink coffee and yarn to familiar faces… Ruby show ready!

And Dans MK5 looking very smart in her line up!!!

Luka and Gran’ma time with the “fast old cars”

Original cortina line up in traditional colours!

And Luka perusing the MK1s in there colourful line up!

There is a section for other cars..(Ford of course) and this shiny (ugly) Anglia doing its best!

Jaxon, Dans co-pilot for the road trip taxied to the airport mid morning for his flight home, only to find it cancelled…as luck would have it Russ’s Nelson friends (John and Chris) had popped by to say hi…and very kindly went and collected him …. Now rebooked to leave this morning (Sunday) ….

Judging over…it was then a road run out to Māpua Wharf for lunch!

Trudi being a seagull at Mapua..

And Lexi, Luka and Dan enjoying some family time…watching the birds and the boats!

On the way back Jaxon, Trudi and I visited Marsden Cemetery and Russ’s parents and brothers plot…

Using the scissors from my picnic basket and a after a quick stop at Bunnings for flower pots…we snipped away the long grass and spent a some time in the afternoon sunshine!

Journey back, via town for a fuel up…and a couple of house supplies…and a cold beer in the sunshine before the ‘C’ cortina party night! Walking distance from our motels!

Aiming for the 6pm start…we donned our attire…quickly grabbed by yours truly a day before we left!

The Cortina Construction Crew! all dressed up and ready to stun the crowds! Which we did, as unbeknown to us…drinks started at 4.30pm and dinner at 6! So we rocked in (in all our glory) at 6 …. Last!…. And made a grand entrance as every one was seated and ready to eat! Oops, timing isn’t always perfect!

However the evening went well…we ate, socialised…danced the catwalk and were not quite last to leave!
