We all met at the gate of the holiday park at 8.30am (Sunday) for a convoy roady to Riwaka and beyond….

Ruby heading the show as we were given our morning brief! (Purely by accident)
50-60 Cortina’s headed out of Nelson taking the roads less travelled…nearly a two hour car cruise to line up at the Riwaka Tavern…

Lunch stop (and a bathroom break)…. Some stayed and others carried on…we being one crew who decided to carry on to Kaiteriteri Beach for our lunch!

Sitting on the terrace ….

Looking out to sea! It most felt like summer…for some brave punters who had donned their bathing suits….Daniel thinking it sounded like a good idea and one dive in gave him brain freeze! We then headed further out the northern coast to a place called “The Riuwaka Resurgence” at the base of the Takaka hill, a sacred (Māori) water source! A 3km bush walk…

And another swimming opportunity…Dan in again, Luka liking the idea, but not the water temperature!

If Dan thought the sea was cold…the fresh water added another dimension!

We then took the (small) bush walk…my country boy grandson barefoot all the way…and this Heron chilling on the rocks!

To the source…. Cave water coming up!

Man and his son having a meditative moment!
As we were leaving the valley, Dan pulled over on the right hand side of the road and signalled for me to pull in behind….

Snapped this shot…can you guess why? Check out the road sign….appropriate?
We parted ways on the journey back, Trudi and I stopping at the supermarket and calling in to say Hi to Uncle Ron before heading back to camp…

For a moments R&R in the sunshine! Before heading to the prize giving dinner!

As the sun set, we ate and drank (not much) and clapped our way through the winners…no trophy for the Bonnici crew and a bit of slap on the wrist for BYO (ing) our own drinks to the night befores party! But we are all winners, great sunshiny Nelson mini break and our cars going like rockets! What more can we ask for….family, friends and fast (old) cars!

A farewell this morning as we gassed up and headed for the scenic mountain route back to Picton to catch this afternoons ferry!

The white car family…en route…

And the Red car Gals…stretching out legs!

Ruby still showing off even after a hectic weekend…

A break on the winding roads, as our arms have had a great workout swinging around snake corners for an hour and no power steering!

Lunch and playground time in Picton before…

Lining up to catch the 3.5 hour ferry to the mainland (North Island) ready for some more intense windscreen therapy!
We are an our out, with a rolly ride behind us as windy Wellington never disappoints!
