That’s a Wrap

After arriving into a Wellington Weather bomb on Monday evening….the Cortina construction Crew parted ways… on Tuesday morning…

Dan at 4.30am to drive back to Auckland, in 130 km per hour winds and torrential rain, Lexi and Luka ubered to to airport to catch a delayed flight and Thelma and Louise hunkered down on the hills of Wellington waiting for the storm to pass…

Taking our time in pack up we found Lukas Bunnings teddy who was now relegated to a roady with the grand‘mas!

We left around 10.30pm in a window of easing rain to hit the highways north west to Wanganui…for a couple of days with my in-laws(at least only a 3 hour drive!)

Rubys 48 year old windscreen wipers swinging into action…and the inside fog cleared with human arm wiping!

An hour out…

Clouds lifted, and a coffee stop to take a deep breath! After such a sunny Nelson weekend…this cold snap had put a damper on our trip and in our hearts!

But as we headed out towards the coast the sky’s cleared a little … two hands on the wheel to keep on the road as the wind gusts threatened to send Ruby flying off to Oz!

We arrived in Wanganui, around 3pm(a few rest stops) to a windy and clear afternoon!

Laundry time! As packing light meant we needed a few clean clothes to complete our journey!

Dinner was out at the Brick House restaurant in Wanganui with Grahams rotary club…and home to sleep off the trauma of our little sojourn in Wellington!

Wednesday was Brenda day…hanging out with the girls…lunch at the local cafe! Followed by a lamb roast dinner! (prepared by yours truly)

And Ruby taking time out to rest before her journey home!

Yesterday, we cleaned up, packed up…had coffee with Brenda and hit the road for the journey home around midday!

No roady is complete without one MacDonalds stop…so we graced Taumarunui with our presence! Traveling through rain and drizzle all the way home…

Hitting Auckland traffic carparks around 6pm – wipers still doing their thing and arriving home a little after 7pm before the heavy downpours hit Waitoki overnight!

Eight days on the road and about 2500kms on the clock, Ruby didn’t miss a beat…she didn’t even need water or oil top up! (Just a few hundred dollars of 98 petrol!) For a 48 year old gal with no modifications she is a gem! Maybe not the same can be said for her driver!

So that is a wrap for the bi annual cortina nationals!
