Another short working week flew by, and Thelma (without Louise) took to the Road for adventures south. International border closures over the holiday period has meant Kiwis are exploring their own backyard for Summer.
However, it did appear that Friday afternoon, leaving Auckland, was probably quieter than usual. Armed with a bottle of water (to drink sparingly to mnimalise bathroom stops) and a packet of cruskets (healthy snack) Thelma packed up work for her week off and hit the road by 1pm. Full tank of gas and stone chipped windscreen, Postponing the repair until after her return(another story).
Easy run out of the city, and two hours to the designated Restroom stop….well done Thelma. Scanning the radio every time the current station loses range, singing out loud (something an out of tune singer can do when in car alone), sipping the water sparingly, and navigating forgotten highways.. a long stretch behind a cattle truck kept the juices flowing (the aroma of cow excretion wafting through my air conditioning vents)…a few impatient idiots and inconsiderate ones (to be expected with kiwi drivers) but on the whole made it unscathed to the 2nd loo stop by 5pm…plenty of daylight left to navigate the last stretch of hills and winding roads on the homeward stretch to Wanganui to visit my Carter family..not seen since April (last excursion before Auckland got locked out of the rest of our country)
6.30pm arrival, Thelma a little thirsty – and it was Friday! Cooling off and catching up, Chinese takeaway feast and great sleep. Saturday plans … and a glorious Manuwatu summers day!
Busy weekend planned – watch this space
